How to Tune to Drop D
- Tune the other five strings to standard first: A, D, G, B, and E.
- Tap the D2 button to lock the tuner to the low string, then loosen that string while it rings. It drops a whole step, 200 cents, from E2 to D2.
- Stop when the tuner shows In tune. As a check, the low D should sound one octave below the open D string.
Tune up to each note rather than down to it. If you go past, loosen the string below the note and come back up: the string holds its pitch better that way.
